Methodology
i

Soundly is an independently owned hearing health research tool. Our reviews are conducted by hearing aid wearers and audiologists. We physically review the leading hearing aids on the market for sound quality, comfort, durability, and more. Our review process starts with hands-on unboxing and days, weeks, or months of wear. We also record live sound demos using a calibrated binaural microphone (read more here). We experiment with backend fitting software for prescription products and use test box measures to measure prescriptive accuracy and flexibility. Our work is funded through reader support. When you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Read more about our story here.

PROFESSIONAL FITTING
In the Ear

The Audicus Mini is a well-respected invisible hearing aid offered 1/3 the traditional price. The hearing aid was released in November 2022 with more intelligent sound algorithms and app-controls.

Mini is manufactured by global leader WS Audiology and the programming is completed by the Audicus team of remote hearing professionals.

The entire process happens without an in-person doctor's visit. Some have called Audicus the Warby Parker of hearing aids for its disruptive model and approachable brand.

Research Note 💻: Audicus is currently offering $100 off any Audicus product with code 100HEARING.

Pros 👍
  • Audicus Mini sits entirely in the ear
  • Fully remote, Telehealth service, no in-person doctors visits
  • Priced at 1/3 the traditional cost of invisible hearing aids

Cons 👎
  • Audicus Mini is well made but doesn't have every technological bell and whistle
  • Mini is not rechargeable or Bluetooth streaming enabled (this is true of most invisible styles)
  • The small size can make this hearing aid hard to handle
  • Volume control requires use of a smartphone app (vs. buttons)

How It Works
+

All Audicus products are fully programmable by a hearing professional. Unlike some other over-the-counter options, you will not need to self-program your devices.

Audicus will ask you to take an online hearing test or send an existing hearing test. The company then assigns one of their remote audiologists to program your hearing aids. If you need further adjustments you can send your hearing aids back for reprogramming for free but can not get remote programming with this product.

The breakdown

What makes Audicus hearing aids different than other options on the market?

Audicus moves the whole fitting process from local shops (with lots of overhead) to one central website and remote audiologists. As a result, they can cut the price to about half of what you could expect from a local audiologist.

Audicus hearing aids are made by Sonova, which sells similar technology for $4,500 through a local care provider.

The tech inside

Audicus Aura hearing aids fit completely in the ear and allow custom programming by the Audicus team before they are shipped. The rest of the tech in these hearing aids is straightforward. Audicus Aura hearing aids use a size 10 disposable battery (replaced every 4-5 days) and do not have Bluetooth connectivity. The main selling point is the discreet size at an affordable price.

Getting up close

Audicus Aura hearing aids sit fully in the ear, and they use a clear pull-tab to allow easy removal.

Audiucs Aura hearing aids come with a black or beige face. Both colors have markings to show which device goes in the right and left ear.
