Methodology
i

Soundly is an independently owned hearing health research tool. Our reviews are conducted by hearing aid wearers and audiologists. We physically review the leading hearing aids on the market for sound quality, comfort, durability, and more. Our review process starts with hands-on unboxing and days, weeks, or months of wear. We also record live sound demos using a calibrated binaural microphone (read more here). We experiment with backend fitting software for prescription products and use test box measures to measure prescriptive accuracy and flexibility. Our work is funded through reader support. When you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Read more about our story here.

Currently, Costco offers three prescription hearing brands - Philips, Rexton, and Jabra.

Costco doesn’t manufacture hearing aids; instead, they purchase devices from three of the largest manufacturers and sell them through their in-store hearing clinics.

If you prefer telehealth care (no membership or Club visits needed) you can also purchase Jabra hearing aids directly from the brand with telehealth programming here.

Product and Styles

GN Hearing manufactures Jabra Enhance Pro 20 (new in 2023) and uses the same technology as the popular private practice product, ReSound NEXIA. Jabra Pro 20 is available in both receiver-in-canal style hearing aids and custom-molded options.

There are pros and cons to going to Costco for your hearing aids. Some people have a great experience, while others feel the staff is under-trained for their needs.

Costco offers some of the best technology available at an impressive price. We recommend Costco as an option for budget seekers with a Costco nearby. If you have a complex hearing situation like asymmetrical hearing loss, past surgeries, or severe hearing loss, you’ll likely have more success with a more trained audiologist.

Jabra Vs. Philips and Rexton

Jabra, Philips and Rexton share a lot of common features and strengths.

We like Jabra Enhance Pro 20 for its ability to manage background noise. Wearers with mild-moderate hearing loss can opt for a M&RIE receiver - a third microphone inside the ear. The M&RIE receive can be uncomfortable in smaller ears but offers a boost in background noise and eliminates the sound of your hands or hair touching your hearing aid.

Jabra Pro 20 (and its sister device ReSound NEXIA) are the only hearing aids on the market with built-in Auracast features. Auracast is not widely available but will eventually improve streaming in public places. You can read more about the technology here.

Pros 👍
  • Free hearing test for members.
  • Lower prices compared to similar products in clinic.
  • One loss or damage replacement for free (valid for two years).
  • Clean your hearing aids any time at Costco for free while you shop.
Cons 👎
  • Membership required.
  • Costco relies mainly on hearing aid dispensers rather than audiologists.
  • Requires in-person visits (not possible for some).
  • Phonak, Starkey, and Widex are not available at Costco.

  • Jabra Enhance Pro 10 is an excellent choice for background noise management. The optional M&RIE microphone that sits inside the ear adds additional intelligence and reduces handling noise from your hair or glasses.

  • Jabra Enhance Pro 20 is a discreet and comfortable product, but some users with smaller ear canals find the M&RIE receiver uncomfortable in their ears. M&RIE can be removed by your care provider and replaced with a standard receiver.

Costco Process
+

Jabra Enhance Pro 20 is sold at Costco clubs throughout the U.S. Costco offers their members premium technology at discounted prices through their in-store hearing centers.

Costco’s hearing center staff are primarily hearing instrument specialists, although some Costco staffers are audiologists.

If you choose to work with Costco for your hearing care, you must schedule an appointment at a local store. Read our full review of the process here.

How to Choose a Style
+

Costco offers a range of hearing aid brands and styles. Around 85% of customers select a hearing aid that sits behind their ear (often called receiver-in-canal or RIC). RIC hearing aids have the most advanced technology and are generally more comfortable and less expensive.

Costco also offers some in-the-ear models, which some users enjoy for ease of handling and personal preference. Most in-the-ear models require an earmold which will be taken in a Costco Store and then shipped to the manufacturer to create a one-of-one hearing aid for you.

We suggest a behind-the-ear RIC style hearing aid for most first-time hearing aid wearers.

🦻 Audiology-grade technology

Costco doesn’t manufacture any hearing aids. They sell devices from the four largest hearing aid manufacturers globally.

There are five big players in the hearing aid manufacturing market. Costco works with three them to offer their latest technology at lower prices and under different names than you would find at a local clinic.

#1. Demant: Maker of the Philips brand at Costco (similar to Oticon Real)
#2. WS Audiology: Makes hearing aids for Costco under the Rexton brand (similar to Signia)
#3. GN Hearing: Maker of Jabra Enhance Pro (similar to ReSound)

In this article, we’ll focus on Jabra Enhance Pro. We’ll look at the technology, design, prices and alternatives.

Jabra Enhance Pro Overview

Image of a man wearing Jabra Enhance Pro hearing aids

Costco's Jabra Enhance Pro hearing aids start at $1,699 for a pair and include a standard recharge hearing case. You can upgrade to a premium case for an additional cost.

If the name Jabra sounds familiar, it's probably because the brand makes millions of consumer headphones and office headsets yearly.

Few people know that Jabra is owned by GN Hearing, the maker of ReSound hearing aids.

Jabra Enhance Pro is nearly identical to ReSound's NEXIA device. ReSound NEXIA is my go-to hearing aid; you can read our full product review here.

The most significant innovation in the Jabra Enhance Pro is the addition of a third microphone that sits inside the ear. Most hearing aids only have two microphones placed on the body of their devices. The additional Jabra microphone allows the natural shape of your ear to impact sound quality.

Jabra Enhance Pro 20 also has a new Bluetooth protocol that will allow Auracast streaming in the future. Auracast will roll out slowly over the next few years with various public streaming options at Airports and movie theaters. The technology won't change your day-to-day usage now but might future-proof your hearing aids.

Jabra Enhance Pro Styles and Accessories

Image of Jabra Enhance Pro accessories

Jabra Enhance Pro 20 is only available as a behind-the-ear style product and is currently available in 4 colors. Costco offers a few notable accessory devices.

  • TV Streamer 2 - Allows direct TV streaming into your hearing aids
  • Multi Mic and Micro Mic - Allow you to place an external microphone near a partner or near a speaker in a meeting for directly streamed audio
  • Two remote controls - Choose between two remote controls that allow easy volume and program adjustments (you can make these same updates using the app or buttons on most models of the hearing aid)

Every pair of Jabra Enhance Pro hearing aids comes with an included charge case that must be plugged into the wall while charging. You can upgrade to a premium case that holds up to three charges in the case itself for on-the-go charging.

Jabra Enhance Pro Tech Checklist

✅ Bluetooth streaming on Android and Apple devices

✅ Rechargeable batteries with 30 hours of life per charge

✅ Optional 312 battery-powered version for those who prefer a non-rechargeable battery

✅ Automatic program adjustment that senses environment

✅ Remote program adjustments are available after the first two appointments

❌ No telecoil available

Is Jabra Enhance Pro Worth The Price?

Costco shoppers currently have three brands to choose: Jabra, Philips and Rexton.

Where does Jabra stack up on that list?

Many features in these devices are equal. All three top hearing aids fit discreetly behind the ear, give full customization to your hearing professional, offer rechargeable batteries, and come with Costco's full-service offering.

Jabra stands out in two ways.

#1. Jabra Enhance Pro has a more innovative design. The 3rd microphone inside the ear increases sound clarity, and many users say it gives a "natural" sound. I also prefer the body shape of Jabra Enhance Pro to the other options at Costco.

#2. Jabra Enhance Pro comes with great accessories. The Jabra Enhance pro Multi Mic is one of the best listening accessories I've tried. Jabra has a separate TV streamer but multi-mic can stream from your TV as well. It's a great offering!

Ultimately the price for all products at Coscto are very competitive compared to the national average. You can listen to sounds samples from Jabra's sister product ReSound NEXIA here.
